Getting your first tattoo is both scary and exhilarating. Getting a piece of art permanently inked on your body is a big deal and something you should spend time preparing for. By following these tips, you’ll be better prepared for the experience, and you’ll be more likely to have a positive experience.

Prepare Your Skin
Keeping the area where you plan on getting inked clean and free from infection is an important way you can prepare. Stay indoors for a few days before in order to avoid sunburn. Applying a moisturizer to the area in the days before your session is helpful, too.

Keep Your Blood From Thinning

Getting your first tattoo can cause minor bleeding. This isn’t a problem if you haven’t taken anything that could thin your blood, like alcohol or aspirin. Steer clear of these, and you’ll be golden.

Avoid Low Blood Sugar

Low blood sugar can cause you to feel dizzy or sick during your appointment. Eat a light meal beforehand and bring a few snacks to keep your blood sugar levels stable.

Bring Comfort Items

It’s wise to bring a bottle of cold water as well as a few items for entertainment. Headphones are a good idea if you plan on listening to music during your tat session, and a book or magazine might come in handy if you have to wait.
